Jonathan began his musical career in the west-country cathedral choirs of Wells and Truro, UK. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, London in 1992, he studied privately with the Armenian pianist Nellie Akopian. Since then he has worked as a freelance pianist, organist, and more recently as a researcher of musical psychology. In 2000 he was appointed principal pianist of Remix Ensemble, Casa da Musica in Portugal.

He is currently investigating the psychology of classical improvisation as a PhD thesis at the University of Sheffield.
